General information
The Russian language (Russian: русский язык, [ˈru.skʲɪj jɪˈzɨk] / transcription russki jazyk) belongs together with the Ukrainian, Belarusian and Russian to the East Slavic languages. Together with the second language speakers, there are around 255 million Russian speakers. Russian is one of the world languages.
Russian is spoken by around 145 million people as their mother tongue and is the official language in Russia and Belarus (along with Belarusian). The official language is in Kazakhstan (with Kazakh as the official language) and Kyrgyzstan (with Kyrgyz as the official language). There are numerous Russian minorities in the CIS states and in the former Soviet republics, and almost everyone has at least the basics of this language. In addition, it is still spoken by many in the former Eastern Bloc countries, as it was the language of the Warsaw Pact. In total, Russian is spoken by around 270 million people.
The written language is stored in the Cyrillic alphabet, which is also used for Ukrainian, Belarusian and Bulgarian Applies.

The following special characters are mostly silent. The hardness mark has hardly been used since the spelling reform around 1920.

numbers
Numeral words are placed in front of the objects or people to be counted.
The number one (один / одна / одно) matches the corresponding noun in gender, number and case. The numbers two (два), three (три) and four (четыре) or all numbers that have these digits at the end of the word are followed by the noun in the genitive singular. All other numerals are followed by the noun in the genitive plural.
The one follows always the tens - apart from the numbers for eleven through nineteen.
