Xian (西安 Xī'ān) is a city in the province of Shaanxi, at China. It is the oldest, still existing, capital of ancient China.

Xian is over 3,000 years old and was known as Chang'an (长安) in ancient times. For 1,000 years, the city was the capital of 13 dynasties, and a total of 73 emperors ruled here. Xian is the undisputed root of Chinese civilization, having been the capital of the Zhou, Qin, Han and Tang dynasties. Within the city there are historical ruins, museums and cultural relics.

It was situated at the east end of the Silk Road. In it, merchants from all over the world brought goods and ideas and brought goods and ideas back to their home countries. Today the city has a pleasant cosmopolitan climate and is worth visiting only for the famous Terracotta Warriors. It has often been said that, "if you haven't been to Xian, you haven't been to China!"

Xian has most of its annual rainfall from August to the end of October. It is characterized by hot summers and cold, dry winters. Spring and autumn are brief and dry.
