Siem Reap is the city of Cambodia, is the city near Angkor Wat, a complex of monuments and the most famous tourist destination in Cambodia.

This place-name in Burmese means "Siam defeated".

Siem Reap has Chinatown located in the West Quarter, around the old market. The city has a stage performing Apsara dance, craft shops, silkworm farms and rice fields of the countryside and fishing and melaleuca villages near Tonlé Sap lake. Today, Siem Reap is a popular tourist destination with many hotels and restaurants. Small hotels and restaurants are located around the old market, large establishments are located between Angkor International Airport and along National Road 6.

Arrive

Air routes at Angkor International Airport with a number of international routes, with direct flights connecting to Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Danang belong to Vietnam.By road: From Moc Hoa to Phnom Penh 120 km. From Phnom Penh, follow the national highway 320 km north to Siem Reap. 2 lane asphalt road. It is possible to buy tickets for Ho Chi Minh City-Phnom Penh and Can Tho-Phnom Penh.

Air

Siem Reap International Airport [1] (IATA : REP, ICAO: VDSR) is the second largest airport in Cambodia. Airport architecture is Khmer architectural style. There are two separate international and domestic terminals. Airlines operate at this airport:

The airport is 7 km from the city center. Taxi fee is about 7 USD. Check out the pre-paid taxi stand just outside the station. The tuktuk is cheaper. Motorbike taxi 2 US dollars. Most hotels have a free airport pick-up service if you book in advance.

When going through the customs clearance counter, the staff often ask questions (maybe in Vietnamese) and ask for some money for coffee, you can give a few dollars (about 5 dollars).

Walk

The city center is quite compact and flat.

By bike

  • The White Bicycles 855 92 332 730. Bicycles can be rented at various guesthouses affiliated with this local charity that uses the proceeds from the rental to fund youth education and clean water projects in villages around Siem Reap . The website lists the locations where the bikes are available. US$2/day.

Many motels will lend you bicycles either for free or for a cheap price (1-3 USD).

By motorbike

Motorbike taxis abound and will make sure you know where they are. A motorbike taxi ride in the city costs as little as $0.50 or 2000 riel, although prices can double at night or in bad weather. Agree a price first. Full days can be arranged for ~US$10. Helmets for passengers are rare although possible if requested in advance.

Renting a motorbike to foreign tourists is prohibited in Siem Reap, although motorbikes rented elsewhere are allowed.

By tuk-tuk

Tuk-tuks, like motorbike taxis, are everywhere.

A trip in Siem Reap costs only about 1 USD regardless of how many people are sharing. Most tuk-tuks can fit four people comfortably, although the weight of the bike can make the low-powered bikes slow. Prices can double at night or in bad weather.

Make sure both you and the driver are in clear agreement on the destination and total fare before departure.

To watch

  • Visiting the temple ruins AngkorTickets for foreigners are 37 USD/day. If you plan to visit many days, you can buy a long-term ticket, like a 3-day ticket is 43 USD, a week ticket is 63 USD.
  • See Apsara dance, a traditional Cambodian dance, in restaurants in the evening, you must make a reservation or come early to reserve your seat and choose a seat with a beautiful view.

Do

  • Siem Reap night market, you can pick up Tuktuk and tell them to come to the night market (Vietnamese or English they all understand) for 2 or 3 dollars, at the night market you can comfortably view goods, choose bargains without paying the price. Don't be afraid to be "reprimanded" if you don't buy. The sellers here are all fluent in English.
  • Cruise on Tonlesap Lake/Sea Lake and sample the specialties of this lake at the restaurants on the lake.
