Yaguaron, is a city Paraguayan, located in the IX Department of Paraguarí.

The city is recognized for its tourist and cultural value, it is located 48 km from the city of Assumption, on international route No. 1 "Mcal. Francisco Solano López".

Its name comes from an ancient legend, which says that a large dog, Jaguaru or Ñaguaru in Guaraní, it would be the ancestral protector of the city.

Its foundation dates from the year 1587, the work of Fray Luis Bolaños and his companion Alonso de San Buenaventura, after the arrival of the Franciscans to the Paraguay, leaving as his greatest legacy the San Buenaventura Temple, one of the most beautiful and appreciated places by tourists not only from Paraguay, but from all over the world. Its architecture stands out. The temple of Yaguarón is a monumental work of colonial style where you can see a true work of art in wood carving by indigenous people from the workshops of the Franciscan reductions.

The temple of San Buenaventura, patron saint of the city of Yaguarón, is one of the most famous in Colonial America, worthy of being admired and contemplated. It is located in the middle of a wide square, surrounded by lush trees.

Its roof is gabled, supported by wooden columns, its walls are wide, made of adobe, surrounded by the “Jere” corridor, approximately 6 meters long. Wide. Its interior is a complete contrast to the simplicity of the exterior. Its altarpieces, confessionals, pulpit and sacristy are of remarkable beauty and magnificence. Upon entering the interior of the temple, you can perceive its monumentality.

In the first place you can see the Choir, attached to the main façade. Then the Crucified Christ, carved in wood.

The ceiling and columns are profusely decorated with shapes inspired by the local flora.

In the High Altar, of great dimensions (14 meters high by 6 meters long), there is a large central niche, where the beautiful image of the Immaculate Conception stands out, on whose head a dove hangs, symbolizing the Holy Spirit. It is a reflection of the artistic work of the Hispanic - Guaraní Baroque. The monumental artistic work was directed by the Portuguese José de Souza Cavadas.

To get

The city can be reached from the capital Asunción and from Encarnación through the N1 route "Mcal. Francisco Solano López" by car or by bus, in a forty-five minute trip by car.

Because it is not a very big city, you can do the tour on foot, but if you do not want to walk, you can do the circuit by car, since the route and the adjacent avenues will take you to all the places of interest.
