The Yarra River rises in Yarra Ranges National Park. The Upper Yarra Reservoir serves as a water reservoir for Melbourne. After leaving the Yarra Ranges, it flows through the hilly Yarra Valley, it is known for its numerous wineries. Wines are primarily produced from the grape varieties Chardonnay and Pinot Noir as well as sparkling wines. Eventually the river reaches the city of Melbourne, where it joins the Port Phillip Bay flows out.
