The road network is dense throughout the state. Almost all roads are paved.

Local public transport is only available to a limited extent. There are some railway lines that are star-shaped after Melbourne walk and from most places there is at least one bus service to Melbourne.

Tourist Attractions

The well-known Twelve Apostles (there are only eight rock pillars)
  • Great Ocean Road. A popular stretch of coastline with miles of white sandy beaches, impressive national parks and rocks as well as some very touristy places. Main goal is Port Campbell National Park with various rock formations on the coast (including the well-known Twelve Apostles - official park information in English.
  • Alpine National Park. The Victorian Alps are an excellent hiking area in summer and a corresponding ski area in winter.
  • Gippsland. And the national parks east of it on the Pacific.
  • Yarra Valley. A wine-growing area.

Apart from the obvious water sports on the coast, a number of long-distance hiking trails have been marked in recent years, which run along disused railway tracks and are also suitable for bicycles, so-called Rail trails (Overview or. cards.)

The 655 km long is particularly demanding Australian Alps Walking Trail, the in Valhalla starts and near Canberra ends. Almost all of Australia's highest mountains are touched. The national park administration recommends planning eight weeks for the entire route.
