Perth is the state capital ofWestern Australia in the western part ofAustralia.
To know
Perth is a city with a high standard of living. According to a list of the most liveable cities in the world compiled by The Economist in 2011, it occupied the eighth place.
After Sydney, Perth is the city Australian with the greatest economic development thanks above all to the exploitation of the mineral resources of its territory (gold, nickel and diamonds).
The characteristic of the city is its isolation. The closest Australian city is Adelaide, about 2,100 km further east. Jakarta, capital of Indonesia is 3,002 km away and is closer than Sydney (3,290 km east)
How to orient yourself
Perth: full screen map.The center of Perth sits on the north bank of the Swan River where the river basin widens to form a kind of bay known as Perth Water. To the north the center is bordered by the railway station and to the west by the steep Mount Eliza set up as a city park (Kings Park).
The main arteries of the center are Hay street is Murray street, reserved for shopping and partly pedestrianized.
St Georges Terrace it runs parallel to the previous ones a little further south crossing the Central business district with its forest of skyscrapers, headquarters, for the most part, of mining and oil companies. Its continuation to the east is called Adelaide Terrace.
Other neighborhoods
- Northbridge - Just north of downtown, the Northbridge neighborhood has relevance for its many restaurants and night clubs
- Subiaco - To the west of the center and crossed by Hay street, the Subiaco district ("Subi's") extends on the north side of Kings Park and has a concentration of renowned clubs at the intersection of Hay street with Rokeby Road.
- East Perth - East Perth was an industrial area of yards and warehouses many of which were dismantled starting in the 1970s. Today it is a mainly residential area.
- Burswood - Opposite East Perth, on the opposite bank of the Swan River, Burswood was also an industrial estate but today it is a leisure area with parks and huge golf courses. The "Burswood Entertainment Complex" houses two luxury hotels (Crown Metropol and Crown Promenade), seven restaurants, a theater, a casino open 24 hours a day and a night club,
How to get
By plane
To reach Perth with scheduled flights, you can contact the airlines Qantas (From Rome), Emirates, Qatar Airways, Thai Airways International, etc. All flights have one or more intermediate stops.
The airport is located about twenty kilometers east of the center. Bus line 37 terminates at Kings Park, stopping at various points in the center including the train station.
There is also a shuttle bus service free but their frequency is about 50 minutes. If you arrive at night you will have to book by calling the n. 0410 636 418.

Safety
The problems related to safety are minimal and to prevent them, the precautions normally taken in your place of residence are enough. In Perth, petty crime is almost entirely absent. But be careful outside the clubs / bars to avoid fights with people who have drunk one glass too much, especially on Friday and Saturday nights.

Telephone booths are less and less common, but still present in the main streets. To call Italy you must dial 0011 39 and the Italian telephone number including the prefix with a leading zero if to a landline phone and without a leading zero if to a mobile phone.
