History

Södra Roslags Kustbana was expanded At the beginning of the 20th century and at Berga farm in Åkers skeppslag, a railway station was built on a fence in 1901. To distinguish the station's name from other Berga, it was written Åkers Berga, (Berga i Åkers skeppslag) which after a while has been written with hyphens later was written Åkersberga.

The town had 286 inhabitants in 1935, and merged with Österskär since 1950, and then had almost 200 inhabitants. In 1971, Åkersberga became the central town in Österåker municipality. In the 1990s, the Skutan shopping center and the Åkersberga tunnel through it were expanded.

From Östra station in Stockholm, several trains depart every day to Åkersberga. From Åkersberga station is also possible buses to, among other things Danderyd, Ljusterö, and Norrtälje, and Coffin.
