Story
This uninhabited volcanic island was discovered in 1739 by the French naval officer Jean-Baptiste Charles Bouvet de Lozier who gave it its name. No claims were made until 1825 when the British flag was planted there. In 1928, the UK renounces its claim in favor of Norway, which had occupied the island for a year. In 1971, Île Bouvet and the adjacent territorial waters were designated a nature reserve. Since 1977, Norway has managed a 1 weather station automated on the island.
Countryside
Bouvet Island is an uninhabited island in the southern Atlantic Ocean whose highest point, called 2 Olavtoppen who reaches 780 m. With an area3 of 49 km2, it is 93% covered by a thick ice cap which blocks the coasts to the south and east.
Its 29.6 kilometers of coastline are often surrounded by drift ice. Each southern summer, sections of glaciers fall from high cliffs of volcanic origin into the sea or onto black sand beaches. On the west coast, a lava rock reef, which appeared between 1955 and 1958, has become a nesting site for birds.
Weather
Bouvet Island has a polar tundra climate characterized by a low thermal amplitude. The annual average temperature is −0.7 ° C.
To go
The island does not benefit from any natural port, it is particularly difficult for the ships to approach it. If you are willing to risk your life, you can try using a light boat with outboard motor to access it. Some have, but many have tried and decided it was not worth the risk. The on-board helicopter is thus the easiest way to access it.
Circulate
The interior of the island is inaccessible.

Communicate
For some obscure reason the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority has given it its own .bv top level domain even though the island is uninhabited and someone is very unlikely to move there. For this reason, Norway - the country that administers the domain - has decided that the .bv domain will remain unused.
