The Spanish Virgin Islands are an archipelago of West Indies located in the Caribbean Sea. They are also called Passage Islands.

Understand

The Spanish Virgin Islands are located directly east of Porto Rico of which they are administratively part. They are not part of the US Virgin Islands located directly to the east. Since they are part of Puerto Rico, they are often not considered to be part of the Virgin Islands, but they are well located there geographically. The main islands of the archipelago are Culebra and Vieques, but the Spanish Virgin Islands also include several islets and reefs.

The name "Spanish Virgin Islands" is used in tourist fashion by Puerto Rico, but is rarely used in atlases.

As Porto Rico, the Spanish Virgin Islands have long belonged to theSpain and the Spanish language is still predominant there although theEnglish is also used.
