To get

Trains to Čadca (Slovakia) from the Czech Republic pass through Český Těsín. It is located about 50 km from Ostrava.

By plane

The nearest airport is Ostrava Airport.

By train

There is a train station in the city, on the important Ostrava-Žilina railway line.

By car

The expressway connecting Bielsko-Biała to Brno passes through Český Těąín. In addition, the national highways of Žilina, Ostrava and Karvina intersect here.

  • S t. Juan de Nepomuk on Masaryk Avenue: the oldest sculpture in Český Těąín, dating from the middle of the 18th century; baroque polychrome sandstone
  • Monument to the International Anti-Fascist Coalition STALAG VIII B / D - built on the Olza River in 1979 on the site of the former German prisoner of war camp Stalag VIII D. In 2011, commemorative plaques were uncovered at the monument dedicated to the victims of the Third Reich
  • The building of the former shooting range built in the neoclassical style in 1882, now the "Strzelnica" Cultural and Social Center with an art gallery, jazz club and tennis courts.
  • Gym building: built in the style of functionalism, designed by Jaroslav Fragner in 1935
  • Szomre-Szabos Synagogue: built in the eclectic-Moorish style according to the design of Eduard David in 1928.
  • Train station - built in 1889 in Neo-Renaissance style

Do

Český Těsín is a small city and does not have great monuments compared to more tourist cities. However, it is a border city divided in two by a river and crossing a bridge leads to the Polish part of the city (Cieszyn) with the interest of being able to visit two countries in a few hours. Also, the Polish part has more monuments in its old town: The Rynek or main square, several churches of different styles and a tower as the rest of a fortress located on a promontory next to the city.

While in Český Těsín you can buy the typical products of the Czech Republic, accessing the Polish side opens up a wider range of possibilities. Among them, of course, alcohol, whose special liqueurs have a different palate from those of the Czech Republic, making their consumption almost vicious.

  • Chopin Vodka - The most expensive potato vodka in Poland, beautifully presented.
  • Tadeusz bread - Another expensive vodka also presented in a cardboard tube ideal to protect it on trips.
  • Old Krupnik - Medos - Two brands of honey liqueur, soft on the palate to take in small shots.
  • Wisniowa - Various brands of cherry liqueur, it goes down well like Krupnik but is a bit more cloying.
  • Wodka Zoladkowa Gorzka - Fruit vodka that is felt when it goes down the throat.
  • Beer - Several brands among which Strong stands out, a 7º beer that is nevertheless the favorite among women.
  • Sweet - Szarlotka, a kind of sponge cake with various fillings: Strawberry (Truskawkami), cherry (Wisniowa) or apple and cinnamon among others.

Entering the border crossing from the Czech side there is a duty-free shop with low prices and special products for these shops (perfumes, whiskey 43ª). In the Polish part there is another one within the same border post but alcohol is not sold there.
