THE Alexandroupoli is the capital and largest city in the prefecture of Evros with 57,812 inhabitants. It is an important port and commercial center of the northeast Of Greece.

Alexandroupolis is one of the most important transport hubs as it is accessible by all means, by air, rail, road and ferry.
By air
Alexandroupolis has an international airport (Democritus International Airport[1]), which is 7 km from the city center. There are daily flights to and from Athena. Some days of the week there are flights to and from Crete and Mytilene. During the summer months there are some seasonal flights to and from Germany and Russia. The airport is connected to the city by city buses and taxis.
By train
OSE daily itineraries[2] connect Alexandroupolis with Thessaloniki and Athens, passing through all the prefectures of Thrace and Eastern Macedonia. There are also daily itineraries with the areas of Northern Evros.
By road
Daily intercity bus routes[3] connect Alexandroupolis with its cities Komotini, Xanthi, Kavala and Thessaloniki. Via the Intercity Bus Station of Thessaloniki[4] there is a possibility to go to the cities of Western, Central and Southern Greece. There are also some intercity bus routes that directly connect Alexandroupolis with Athena. There is a frequent daily connection with the other areas of the Prefecture of Evros.

Beaches
Alexandroupolis is a seaside town, bathed by Thracian Sea and has a coastline of 25 km, extending from the Delta of Evros to the zone of ancient Mesimvria. In it you can find beaches for all tastes:
- EOT Municipal Beach: is the closest beach to the city and has been awarded with blue flag.
- Red Rocks: beach with picturesque coves, without sand, but with fine pebbles, ideal for diving from above, up to 10 meters high.
- Dolphin: shallow beach, with endless sand, near the city.
- Kalamaki: located in the settlement of Nea Chili, 3 km outside the city, next to its facilities University. Organized beach, sandy, with fine sand, clear blue waters and staggered depth.
- Agia Paraskevi-Cανte d'Azur: awarded with blue flag, is located in its area Makris, 12 km from the city. One of the busiest beaches of Evros, where you can experience water sports, but also enjoy a drink or coffee at the beach bar.
- Dikellon Beach: located 20 km away from the city center, between Makri and Mesimvria. Organized for the most part, but also has free space. One of the most cosmopolitan beaches in the area, with a long coastline.
- Mesimvria Beach: free for the most part, with fine, brown sand and crystal clear blue waters, close to the archeological site of the settlement of Mesimvria.
- Scorpio: lesser known beach, remote, but crystal clear. Near Dikella, it is the favorite beach of spearfishers.
