THE Axioupoli is his town Prefecture of Kilkis.
At a glance
It was liberated in 1912, as was the entire province of Paionia. In 1948 it became a Municipality. It is located on the west bank of the river Axios. It is located 547 km North-Northwest of Athens, 62 km northwest of Thessaloniki, 34 km west of Kilkis, 3.5 km west of Polykastro and west of the river Axios. During the exchange of populations between Greece and Turkey in 1923, Axioupolis and the surrounding area received refugees from Thrace and Asia Minor.
