Kizil is a city in the south Siberian, its capital RussianRepublic of Thebes. It was founded in 1914 under the name "Belotsarsk". However, after the October Revolution, the city was renamed "Hem Beldir". In 1926 the city got its current name. In the language of the natives Tuvan Kizil means "red". The city of Kizil is built on the banks of the Yenisei River. According to the 2010 Census, the population of the city is 109,918 inhabitants. The city also has an Airport which is located about 6 km away from the city.

The dominant language of the city of Kizil is Russian, which is also its official language Russia. However, the language of the indigenous Tuvans continues to be their mother tongue to this day.
