Language
Although historically speaking, the main languages of the region were Hungarian and German, but Slovak is the main language consistently today. There are a few well-known minorities in the Spis region: Gypsies, Rusynians, Ukrainians, and Gurals. These usually retain their own language and traditions and live in their own independent villages. Until the Second World War, there were also large German and Jewish populations; later by the Slovak puppet government during the Second World War, they were deported to German death camps (mainly fromPopradStation), and there were large-scale deportations after the German war.
