Zhuang language originated from the aboriginal languages of ancient Lingnan and belongs to the Zhuang-Dong language family. It is related to Dai language, Buyi language, Dong language, Lingao language and Vietnamese Daiyi language. The ancient Zhuang people used square Zhuang characters as the carrier of the Zhuang language. In 1955, the Chinese authorities created a new Zhuang script with phonetic sounds based on the Latin alphabet. In 1982, the "Zhuang Language Program" was passed, and the new Zhuang language was further generalized.
