The most beautiful view of the city can be seen from the observation tower (paid) and the city wall. The castle also houses a permanent exhibition hall, two restaurants, a cafe and a nightclub.

The Triple Bridge (Tromostovje)-1 km from the railway station/bus terminal, is one of Plenek’s most famous works. The square connected to it (Presernov Trg) is the favorite meeting place for locals, with the pink Baroque St. Mary’s Church and a beautifully-built department store.

Dragon Bridge-Built in 1901, the dragon is a symbol of the city of Ljubljana. The elaborately carved dragon image is both frightening and elegant.

  • Skocjan caves

Introduction of UNESCO World Heritage:

[ The special limestone cave system includes collapsed sinkholes, underground passages more than 200 meters deep and about 6 kilometers long, and many waterfalls.

The 413-hectare reserve preserves a unique limestone cave system, which includes one of the largest underground river canyons in the world, which is cut into the limestone bedrock by the Reka River. On its way through this place, the Reka River suddenly disappeared into the underground karst, and then passed through a huge, picturesque river channel with a height of 150 meters and a width of more than 120 meters, appearing in the form of irritating rapids and waterfalls. The most spectacular physical manifestation of the canyon is the huge Martel Chamber, with a volume of more than 2 million cubic meters. Like a canyon, the huge underground halls and caverns in the cave system reveal amazing changes in limestone bedrock and secondary cave structures.

The underground torrent flows along a series of waterfalls, turning it into a major visual and auditory wonder. On the drier ceilings and higher walls of the canyon, limestone deposits caused by dripping water form amazing stalagmites and stalactites. ]

The Reka River disappeared completely when it reached Skocian, and after it continued to flow northward for 34 kilometers, it reappeared in Duino, Italy, and flowed into the Adriatic Sea under the name of the Timava River. The underground canyon is about 3.5 kilometers long, 10 to 60 meters wide, and more than 100 meters high. The total length of all underground passages is approximately 6 kilometers.

It takes about two hours to visit the cave and is led by a dedicated person. An unforgettable experience: After entering the loud cave with a height of 100 meters in the latter part, the surging water of the Reka River, the surging waterfall, the sound of the water rumbling, deafening, and making people feel excited!

There is only 12°C in the cave and slippery passages for up and down. Thick clothes and comfortable hiking shoes should be prepared. No photos are allowed inside the cave. In the event of continuous heavy rain and too much leakage in the cave, the opening of the cave will be temporarily closed. You should check with the Tourism Bureau first.

Language

91% of the population speak Slovenian as their mother tongue, but there are also minorities who speak less Italian (concentrated on the Primorska coast) and more Hungarian (from Prekmule to the northeast). Historically, before the end of the Second World War, there was an important German minority. On the contrary, Slovenian is spoken in border areas of neighboring countries.

Compared with most European countries, the level of spoken English here is very high. Many people you have come into contact with as a tourist speak English and may have some functional knowledge of German, especially in eastern Slovenia, and Italian in coastal areas where Italian is the common official language. Serbo-Croatian and Slovenian are closely related and widely understood.

The school system in Slovenia has greatly promoted foreign language teaching after elementary school. When children enter grammar school, they learn two foreign languages (the most common ones are English and German). A typical grammar school often teaches an optional third foreign language, Spanish, Italian or French. Many people speak English, and the old-speakers speak English. Some elderly people also speak Russian.
