The Republic of Ireland was established in 1922, the Irish Free State, which ended the rule of the British Empire. After the War of Independence, the Anglo-Irish Treaty was signed and Ireland became independent, but the territory of the northeast chose to remain in the United Kingdom, forming Northern Ireland.
The constitution stipulates that the country is named Ireland, but this name is sometimes controversial in diplomacy. The Republic of Ireland is legally used to describe the country.

Holiday
- New Year(Lá Caille, January 1)-Also known as the "new calendar year", it refers to January 1 of the current Western calendar.
- St. Patrick's Day (Lá Fhéile Pádraig, March 17)-is a festival to commemorate the Patriarch of Ireland, the Bishop of St. Bodo (approximately 385-461), held on March 17 every year. This day is the Irish National Day, as well as a bank holiday in Northern Ireland and a statutory holiday in the Republic of Ireland, Montserrat and the province of Newfoundland and Labrador in Canada. The reason why St. Patrick's Day has become a religious holiday of the Roman Catholic Church and a feast day of the Irish Catholic Church is due to the influence of Luke Wadding, a Franciscan monk born in Watford, in the early 17th century.
- Easter Monday (Luan Cásca)- is an important western holiday, every year on the first Sunday after the full moon of the vernal equinox. Christians believe that Easter is a symbol of rebirth and hope, to commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ on the third day after he was crucified on the cross between 30 and 33 AD. If there is an Easter holiday in the area, it is usually closed with Good Friday. Today, many folk customs related to Easter such as Easter rabbits and Easter eggs do not originate from Christianity. Jesus only commanded his disciples to commemorate their death (Luke 22:19, 20).
- May Bank Holiday (Lá an Lucht Oibre, May 7)
- Bank holiday in June (Lá Saoire i mí Mheitheamh, June 4)
- Bank holiday in August ( Lá Saoire i mí Lúnasa, August 6)
- Halloween (Lá Saoire i mí Dheireadh Fómhair, October 29)
- Christmas (Lá Nollag, December 25)-is a traditional holiday in the church calendar. It is a celebration day for Christians to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.
- St. Stephen's Day (Lá Fhéile Stiofáin, Lá an Dreoilín, December 26)
