Tanna is an island in the archipelago of Vanuatu

Isle of 40 km long on 10 km wide in the north and 20 in the south, Tanna has a volcanic basement with sedimentary limestones and reefs.

The inhabitants live in small villages and hamlets connected by traditional roads, or tracks, generally unpaved. The village of Lénakel-Isangel is the only urban, administrative and port center. On this island, five related local languages ​​are spoken.

Half of the area is cultivable and fertile: yam, taro, cassava, kava, coffee, various market gardening. Animal husbandry (cattle, pigs, poultry) and fishing are also aimed at food self-sufficiency. Forest resources are reduced.
