The cities included in the list are all cities that are particularly rich in cultural relics, have great historical value or commemorative significance, and are in continuous use. At present, China has announced 132 national historical and cultural cities, of which Qiongshan City has been designated asHaikouIn Qiongshan District, the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and the State Administration of Cultural Heritage are making statistical reports and the Haikou Municipal Government is merging into one when preparing the city master plan or the protection plan for historical and cultural cities. Therefore, there are actually 131 national historical and cultural cities.

Classification

ChinaAccording to the characteristics of each city, the historical and cultural cities are mainly divided into seven categories, namely

• Traditional style: a city with a complete architectural complex that preserves one or several historical periods, such asPingyao、HanchengWait;
• Scenic spot type: a city that shows distinctive individual characteristics by the superposition of architecture and landscape environment, such asGuilin、SuzhouWait;
• Local and national characteristics: a city that is composed of regional characteristics or individual characteristics, national customs, and local culture as the main body of the city, such asLijiang、LhasaWait;
• Modern and modern historical relic type: a city that reflects a certain event or a certain stage in the history of a building or a group of buildings as its distinctive features, such asShanghai、ZunyiWait;
• Special function type: a certain function in the city occupies an extremely prominent position in history, such as "Salt Capital"Zigong, "Porcelain Capital"JingdezhenWait;
• General historical site type: with scattered throughout the cityCultural relicsHistoric sites are cities that embody the main way of historical traditions, such asChangsha、JinanWait.
