Agulo is a municipality in the north of La Gomera.

Agulo is the smallest parish on the Canary IslandLa Gomera. The main town is located near the coast in a basin on a plateau, it is also called Green balcony designated. The place is surrounded by terraced fields and steep, steep rock faces. Well-preserved buildings and winding streets make up the charm of the historic town center. The municipality stretches south to the hamlet of La Palmita, it is at an altitude of around 700 m and is located on the edge of the Garajonay National Park. Agulo was the first village on La Gomera to have drinking water and electricity. In 1908 the Pescante de Agulo built, it was a loading station for the shipment of bananas and other agricultural products. This facility fell victim to the storms of the Atlantic around 1950, visible remains are two concrete columns near the shore.

Tourist Attractions

  • Along the winding road there are always small parking bays, from them you have a nice view over the place and, when the weather is clear, especially to the neighboring island Tenerife.
  • 1 Centro de Visitantes Juego de Bolas, Visitor center at the entrance of the Garajonay National Park
  • Hogueras de San Marcos. A folk festival that takes place annually on April 24th, the day before St. Mark's Day, in honor of St. Mark the Evangelist. Hogueras are bonfires, where juniper wood is burned. The spicy scent spreads all over the place, the village youth jump over the fire pits.
