Wing of Stura is a mountain town of Piedmont.

To know

Tourist and holiday resort. It is located just 50 km from Turin, the provincial road unfortunately in the last 15 km is bumpy and with many bottlenecks, but once you get there, you realize that the place really deserved a visit. The town with its hamlets lies on an area rich in well-tended woods and meadows. On the Stura stream, the fishing reserve also offers a reserved area for the disabled. A dirt road along the stream is reserved for cyclists and hikers: it marks the so-called ring of the Three Bridges. The departure is from the car park of the Casa del Fondo Cà d'j Prà. In winter this ring is used for skiing and snowshoeing.

When to go

The best seasons for a holiday are summer and winter, but nature also offers wonderful spectacles in spring.

What see

  • Parish church, central square. The building was rebuilt on the previous one from 1300, the bell tower of which is well preserved. The church is open and can be visited all day. There was a valuable altar, marred by a clumsy restoration in the years 2010-2013. The wooden statues and the cross are valuable. The current post-conciliar moving altar recalls the colors and shapes of the high altar before the current restoration. The pipe organ was purchased at the beginning of the new millennium by the deconsecrated church of the Salesian Institute of Lanzo Torinese where illustrious masters accompanied the singing of the pueri cantores and the solemn liturgies. The last to play this organ in Lanzo was Maestro Arcangelo Popolani.
  • The sundials, the route begins in the central square. A map is available at the tourist office and on notice boards.
  • Panoramic terrace, Via Villar 82. The panoramic terrace is in the center of the municipal fishing reserve. Here you can enjoy a priceless view of the Bessanese and Uja di Mondrone, the Stura stream, the Usignetto waterfall, the Stura stream and the Villar meadows. In the summer, Holy Mass is celebrated every Sunday at 10.30.
  • 1 Sanctuary of Martassina, Martassina hamlet (From the provincial road or from the rural road, continuation of via Villar.). The sanctuary, surrounded by greenery, consists of a grotto with the statue of the Madonna of Lourdes and a small and charming chapel. Built in the early 1900s. A fountain offers excellent spring water that many find curative.

Events and parties

  • Feast of the Assumption. The Feast of the Assumption is the most heartfelt in the town and is called "Mesost". The priors always prepare the celebrations with great commitment. On the morning of August 15, after the Holy Mass, the statue of the Virgin Mary is carried in procession accompanied by the young band of Ala di Stura and the priors in typical costume. On the way back, the dance and celebrations begin which will last three days. In the afternoon priors and band turn the knives of houses and restaurants bringing the notes and the color of the party. Everyone is kindly invited to leave a small offering for the rosette offered by the priors.
