Albury is a city in New South Wales, right on the border too Victoria, where the village of Wodonga joins directly.

1  Albury Airport, Airport Drive. (ABX). Reginal Express,Qantas Link and Virgin fly daily to / from Sydney and Melbourne. It goes with less often Jetgo to Brisbane and to the Gold coast.

By train

The Albury train station is still in colonial style.

By bus

The long-distance buses on the main route between Sydney (11 hours) and Melbourne (4½ hours) stop here.

In the street

Albury is on the M31 between Sydney and Melbourne and on the Riverina Highway (B58). From Wangaratta it is 75 km to Wagga Wagga around 150 km.

Part of the bus transport - the fares are zone-dependent (2017: A $ 2.30-4.50) - done in both cities Dyson buslines (13 lines, Mon.-Sat .; no timetable information on the website), the long-distance buses to Mildura, Canberra, Melbourne and Sydney.

The lines 906, 907, 908 maintains Martin's Albury.

Regional buses to the surrounding area in Victoria are operated by PTV operated. It should be noted that there are usually only a few trips. E.g. from Corryong via Walwa only once a day.

A signposted Historic Trail connects the preserved historical buildings, originally mostly from the second half of the 19th century.

  1. Starts at the train station.
  2. 2  Botanical Gardens (At the foot of Monument Hill at the end of Dean St). 4 hectares. Plants hardly signposted. Somewhat hidden behind it is the Friebad Albury Swim Center..
  3. 3  War memorial, Monument Hill. A war memorial that is extensive even by Australian standards.
  4. 4  Hovell Tree. The marking on the tree from November 1824 is considered evidence of the first presence of whites in the region. In the immediate vicinity was the ford (“crossing place” later with ferry) for the herds of cattle driven through. Robert Brown's store was opened here as early as 1836.
  5. Turks Head Hotel. On the occasion of the Union Bridge Opportunity, opened in 1861, this pub had "the first beer in NSW." A museum since the 1950s.
  6. 5  St Matthews Church, 516 Kiev S. The original building from 1857/76 burned down in 1991 and was historically rebuilt on the outside.
  7. Pioneer Cemetery. The cemetery has been a listed building since 1988.
  8. 6  St. Patrick's Church, 515 Smollett St.. The 42 stained glass windows painted in 1870 were designed by the first Australian artist for this. The slate of the roof was imported from Wales. The “catholic precinct” also included a convent (1870), Christian Brothers College (1885), etc.
  9. Old Farmers and Graziers Woolstore, Smollett St.. The formerly large warehouse is now used by the finance office.
Dean Street

In Dean St. you will find the Old Courthouse (1860), Post Office (1875), whose wooden clock tower dates from the 1920s, the old town hall Albury Town Hall (1908) now the Regional Art Gallery and the original land registry office Crown Lands Office (1860s) today Burrows House.
