Alsace Bossue is a region ofAlsace in the Bas-Rhin.
Understand
Composed of three cantons (Sarre-Union, Drulingen and La Petite-Pierre), Alsace Bossue ('s Krumme Elssäs in Alsatian) is one of the last "Regions" to be attached to France in 1793. Former lands of the Germanic Roman Empire, this area still retains important vestiges of This period. The region is said to be "hunchbacked" for 2 reasons:
- the first as visitors will see, this place is hilly with small valleys and hills; hence the name
- the second is that Alsace Bossue was originally to be attached to Lorraine, but since the majority of the population was Protestant (and Lorraine's predominantly Catholic) people decided to want to be attached to Alsace; it is "the bump" in the territory of the region.
