Alta is a city in the Norwegian province Finnmark.

Alta is north of the Arctic Circle, the sun does not set from May 6th to July 26th, and the polar night lasts from November 24th to January 18th. Therefore, Alta is considered a good place to watch the Northern Lights in winter (Aurora borealis).
