The Andean region of Mendoza includes most of the highest peaks of the mountain range To the in the western Argentina (Cuyo). The highest mountain is that Aconcagua.

As expected, the region is very sparsely populated.
- Uspallata, 10,000 inhabitants, colonial city at the foot of the route to Aconcagua, province of Mendoza

Large parts of the area are difficult to access and very sparsely populated. The exception is the road between Mendoza and Santiago (Chile), a well-developed expressway with several tourist spots.

The cities are the starting point for trips to the region with airports Mendoza and San Rafael.

There are only buses between the most important towns, many lonely and attractive areas can only be reached with your own vehicle. Most roads are unpaved, so an all-terrain vehicle is recommended for self-drive.

Hikers and mountaineers get their money's worth in the region, as do winter sports enthusiasts. Almost unknown, on the other hand, is the El Barreal area near the city of the same name, a paradise for beach sailors. It is a huge, smooth, dried-out mud surface.

There are few options for going out, even if every small town has a pub or disco bar. In winter, the bear dances in the ski resorts of Los Penitentes and especially Las Leñas.
