Anholt is a historically independent city in Münsterlandwho made 1975 in the parish Isselburg rose.
background
Anholt lies in the border area between the former duchy of Münster (today Westphalia), the Duchy of Kleve (today Rhineland) and the rule of Geldern (today the Netherlands) and was fought over but also strongly fortified since the Middle Ages. The residence town of the Anholt rulership, later the Principality of Salm-Salm, has one of the most magnificent castle buildings and gardens on the Lower Rhine with the moated Anholt castle.

- 1 Anholt Castle. The former moated castle of the princes of Salm-Salm was converted into a baroque palace around 1700. Very nicely restored after destruction in World War II, today it is partly a museum with an imposing picture gallery, partly a hotel (see there).Open: can only be visited with a guide. Guided tours every hour between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. (last tour).Price: Museum € 12, Park € 5.
