getting there

By train

  • At the Düsseldorf Airport train station ICE and IC lines as well as regional lines stop mainly in the direction of the Ruhr area (and further in the direction of Hanover) and to Cologne. From the train station the Skytrain to the terminal building of the airport. The train ticket is considered a ticket. Further journeys by public transport to this train station: down and back
  • Düsseldorf Airport Terminal, located directly in the terminal building near departure area C, is only served by the S-Bahn line S11 (from / to Bergisch Gladbach) and a night train on the RegionalExpress line 4 (from Aachen) (12 minutes from Düsseldorf Hbf). Departures in the direction of Bergisch Gladbach take place at the minutes xx: 04, xx: 24 and xx: 44 (minutes xx: 24 and xx: 54 on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, Mon - Fri from 7 p.m.) (as of August 2018)

Regional and S-Bahn trains run from both stations directly to Düsseldorf Central Station. While the journey from the long-distance train station requires an additional journey with the SkyTrain, it can still make sense to take this detour instead of taking the S-Bahn from the terminal train station (unless you are there at one of the above departure times arrives). In particular, passengers with the main train station as their destination benefit from a significantly closer train sequence and a journey time that is several minutes shorter due to the lack of intermediate stops (apart from the S1, which serves the same stops as the S11).

Change

Changing at Düsseldorf Airport is easy. You stay in the same building and usually only have short distances. Since the completion of the transfer corridor between piers A and B in 2013, it has been possible to switch between all piers without leaving the security area.

  • Between Lufthansa / Star Alliance flights (e.g. Lufthansa, Austrian, Croatia Airlines, LOT Polish, SAS, Swiss) you will find the connecting flight in Pier A.
  • When changing between flights of the SkyTeam group (e.g. Aeroflot, Air France, Czech Airlines, Delta) you can find a connection in gate B or C.

Please note that for transit bus arrivals in arrival area A (Gate B91), you should not take the direct route into the terminal building (you leave the security area and have to go through another security check), but rather the outside staircase to the left of the entrance. You enter terminal area A within the security area near Gate A25, right next to the transfer corridor to departure area B, and you do not have to undergo another security check.

Check in

All check-in counters are located in the central departure hall. The counter numbers for the respective flights can be found on the information monitors or on the airport's official website. If you click on the flight number under "Departure", you will receive, among other things, current information about the check-in counter.

  • Lufthansa usually uses counters 101-120.
  • There are also check-in machines at the airport, six machines on the departure level of the terminal near the airport information desk, eight in car parks 2, 3, 7 and 8. There you can check in with the airlines Lufthansa, Air France or KLM and use your boarding pass receive. You identify yourself at the machine with your flight ticket, credit or mileage card, booking code or identity card. For guests with transfer connections, there is a Lufthansa and Eurowings Transfer Center in Terminal A, where boarding passes for onward flights can be issued if necessary. The transfer center also has two check-in machines, which can only be used by guests of Lufthansa and its group airlines (with the exception of SWISS and Austrian) and Eurowings.
