Federal motorway 46

The Federal motorway 46 (BAB 46 or A 46), is a federal trunk road that is only opened to traffic in individual sections. She leads from Selfkant with the westernmost municipality in Germany Erkelenz and Grevenbroich over after Neuss, there for around 7 km together with the Federal motorway 57 and further about the Rhine south at Dusseldorf over, cross at Hilden the Federal motorway 3, branches off the BAB 535 at Sonnborner Kreuz and leads through Wuppertal to the cross Wuppertal-Nord, where they are at the Federal motorway 1 and the one branching off from this one Federal motorway 43 temporarily ends. It begins again at Kreuz Hagen on the Federal motorway 45 and leads over Iserlohn to Hemer; the further construction until Menden is planned. The further construction from Menden to Neheim-Hüsten on the upper Ruhr is unclear. At connection 62 Neheim the goes from Werl and in the future from Hamm Coming BAB 445 immediately into BAB 46, which is at Arnsberg past the northern one Sauerland With Meschede taps and before Olsberg ends at the connection Olsberg.

The total length of the motorway, if in operation, is 149.2 km.

An east branch was originally planned for today's motorway, but this was never realized. The connection to the Netherlands was also only built as a federal road.

The Cross Wuppertal-Nord has a complicated, not completely plan-free traffic management. There is a risk of traffic jams around Düsseldorf and Wuppertal!
