Federal motorway 70 - Bundesautobahn 70

Bundesautobahn 70 number.svg

The Federal motorway 70 (BAB 70 or A 70), also Main valley autobahn called, runs in a west-east direction, it connects the Federal motorway 7 at Schweinfurt above Bamberg with the Federal motorway 9 at Kulmbach and Bayreuth. The also as Europastraße 48 (E48) designated motorway has a total length of approx. 120 kilometers.

Federal motorway 70

The A 70 is partly a relatively young motorway, the last section near Schweinfurt was only released in 2005 with four lanes. Shortly before Bayreuth, however, the autobahn is a bit old. In the next few years, old bridges will be replaced, missing hard shoulders added and drainage systems built. Current service information on construction work is available from Supreme Building Authority and the Motorway Directorate North Bavaria.

Within a few kilometers of the exits there are often restaurants, hotels, shops, sights and other things that are worth leaving the motorway. The A 70 does not yet have a real motorway rest area (Haßberge rest area is being planned), but there are several truck stops.

The route is described from west to east (direction of travel east = Arrow down), the kilometer values (only approximate information) are based on the official information from west to east, the regions are not precisely located.

  • The 2 Sanspareil rock gardenSanspareil rock garden in the encyclopedia WikipediaSanspareil rock garden in the media directory Wikimedia CommonsSanspareil rock garden (Q1404222) in the Wikidata database is a landscape garden with bizarre rock formations, ruin theater and an oriental building. The garden was created at the instigation of the Margravine Wilhelmine, a sister of the Prussian King Friedrich II. The rock garden is freely accessible, the museum in the oriental building and the castle café in the kitchen building are open from April to October. The name is said to go back to the exclamation of a guest "C'est sans pareil" - "This is beyond compare". Sanspareil is pronounced in a decidedly non-French way by the locals, if you pronounce it as it is written and replace the "p" with a "b", you will be understood everywhere.
