The Federal motorway 2 (BAB 2 or A 2) is a federal trunk road that Ruhr area with the Berlin Ring connects. The route, which was built in the 1930s, is one of the main axes of the Reichsautobahn network and today the most important east-west traffic axis in Germany as well as part of Europastraße 30 for most of its length (in Germany together with the Federal motorway 30, the Federal motorway 12 and the southern section of the Berliner Ring), which runs from Ireland across the room London and the Netherlands coming over to the east Warsaw and Minsk to Moscow until after Omsk in Siberia leads. In their western part (west of Bad Oeynhausen) the A 2 forms part of the European route 34.

The total length of the motorway is 473 km.

The Autobahn, built in the 1930s, connects the Ruhr area with Berlin. During the time of the division of Germany, it was the most important transit route to Berlin (Helmstedt-Marienborn crossing).
