Taught is a city in the Hanover region.

background

Taught is in the east of the city of Hanover. It owes its growth as a railway town to this location. Ernst August I, King of Hanover, was skeptical about the construction of railway lines. In 1841, he therefore tied the approval of a connection to the eastern Braunschweig railway network with the condition that the branches and the depot of this railway should not be built in Hanover but in Lehrte. Because of its convenient location, a cement factory, Northern Germany's largest cattle-handling area, a mineral fertilizer factory, chemical industry and a sugar factory settled in Lehrte, so that in 1898 city rights were granted.

Through the merger with the towns of Ahlten, Aligse, Kolshorn, Röddensen, Steinwedel, Immensen, Arpke, Sievershausen and Hämelerwald, a population of around 38,000 was reached in 1974. Today Lehrte has 43,000 inhabitants.

As history suggests, Lehrte has only a few historical buildings, mainly churches. Other impressive buildings have only appeared in the past two hundred years. This includes the town hall and the grammar school. The closure of the sugar factory freed up inner-city areas that were dedicated to consumption and recreation.

The villages around Lehrte, with their mostly rural structure, form the appropriate counterpoint to the core city.

Lehrte's history as an important hub of the European railway network shapes the cityscape to this day: the city is cut into several parts by the railway lines to Hanover (west), Celle / Hamburg (north) and Berlin (east). The line to Hildesheim (south) was replaced at the end of the 20th century by a large bypass from the Berlin line. On the former track between Königstraße and Alter Bahnhofstraße there is now a green area with bike and walking paths. To the north-west of the train station, the lines to the west and north divide and, together with the connection from Hanover to Burgdorf, form a track triangle in which the Richtersdorf settlement is located.

sport and freetime

Lehrte has a wide range of sports and leisure opportunities.

cycle

In 2009, Lehrte became Lower Saxony's most bicycle-friendly municipality. The equipment with bike paths is accordingly good. This Taught cycle path network is mainly based on well-paved dirt roads, cycle paths on connecting roads between the districts and a converted railway line. Cycling in the city, on the other hand, is not always a pleasure. Locally, the districts were connected by three different "Lehrter Rings":

  • Ring 1 Lehrte: 51-kilometer bike tour through all of the Lehrter villages OSM card, GPX file
  • Ring 2 Lehrte: 30 km long bike tour through Ahlten, Lehrte, Steinwedel, Kolshorn, Aligse OSM card, GPX file
  • Ring 3 Lehrte: 24-kilometer bike tour through Immensen, Arpke, Sievershausen, Hämelerwald OSM card, GPX file

On foot

In addition to the Lehrter Stadtpark, the Feldmark, the Hämeler Wald, the Ahltener Wald, the Altwarmbüchener Moor, the Mittelland Canal at Sehnde and the Tiergarten in Hanover-Kirchrode are ideal for recreation (especially with children).

In the Lehrter City Park, several running and walking routes have been laid out since 2010 (start at the Schützenplatz car park), which also lead past several fitness stations.

Gyms

There are also several commercial gyms:

  • Easy Fitness (New Center)
  • Actic Fitness (at the Pfingstanger in the indoor pool) with use of the indoor or outdoor pool
  • Body & Soul (Köthenwaldstrasse)

movie theater

The "other cinema"2 , Sedanplatz 26A in Lehrte, Tel. 05132 57442, offers a non-commercial cinema in Lehrte as an association. The name is derived from the antithesis of the no longer existing commercial cinema "Gloria". In the other cinema there are not only film screenings but also other cultural events and occasional parties. The Gloria-Park nursing home is located on the site of the former Gloria cinema.

The next "real" cinema is in Burgdorf.

shop

Every Saturday there is a market on the square around the Matthäuskirche.

Lehrtes center has been relocated several times in the course of its creation. Originally the center of the village was in the old village center by today's Nikolauskirche on Brinkplatz. In the course of the city expansion at the end of the 19th century, Sedanplatz became the center of Lehrte as a connection between the newly built St. Matthew's Church and the likewise new town hall.

Almost 100 years later - in the 70s of the 20th century, Sedanplatz was sacrificed to the new underpass and a modern business complex was built with the "New Center" on the other side of the railway line between the train station and Burgdorfer Straße. After the sugar factory was closed in 1998, planning began for Lehrte's next relocation of the center, which began in 2005 with the opening of the business center on the sugar factory site. Despite all the enthusiasm for the ever-new city centers, it should be noted that the former center locations are still only partially to be regarded as vital zones and are also characterized by vacancies or dirty corners.

Work

Due to the railway junction and the large marshalling yard, many teachers were employees of the railway until the 1950s. Today the job market in Lehrte is more differentiated. Most of the teachers, however, do not work in the city center itself, but commute to work in the Hanover region.

security

Everyone can move around safely in Lehrte without restrictions. There is a police station in the city which is manned around the clock 1 . It is located at Osterstraße 16A, phone 05132 827-0

health

Lehrte has a modern 2 hospital, which goes back to a foundation by Herrmann Manske (1892). Today the hospital belongs to the Hannover Region Clinic and is the teaching hospital of the Hannover Medical School.

Since 2012, the Lehrte Hospital has had an emergency outpatient department for patients who need medical help outside of the normal opening hours of a doctor's office.

Practical advice

In order to get from one point of Lehrtes to another, it is important to know which side of the 3 remaining railway lines you are on. The route to Berlin can only be crossed through the Braunschweiger Straße (Ostring) and Berliner Allee tunnels. The route to the west can only be crossed through the Burgdorfer Straße tunnel or on the Westtangente bypass (Ahlten-Burgdorf). There is also a tunnel for pedestrians between Richtersdorf and Bahnhofstrasse. The route to the north can also only be crossed at the Burgdorfer Strasse tunnel.

If there is a traffic jam on one of the motorways surrounding the Lehrte, the Lehrter urban area is part of the diversion route. East, in particular, the Germaniastraße / Berliner Allee intersection is then clogged with traffic flowing away from the autobahn.

The numbering of the tracks in the train station in the city center is also confusing for non-teachers: the historic tracks 1 to 4 were later supplemented by 2 tracks, which, however, did not connect to track 4, but were in front of track 1 - and therefore the numbers 11 and 12 (actually 1.1 and 1.2) got. Therefore tracks 5 to 10 do not exist.

The teacher 3 Post office is located at the intersection of Poststrasse and Friedrichstrasse.

In the city center, DVB-T2 HD reception is largely assured.

Fast internet is available in all districts. (As of September 2016)

trips

On a regional basis, Lehrte is integrated into the very well signposted cycle path network in the Hanover region. The connections to Hanover, Burgdorf, Uetze, Sehnde and Peine are easy to drive beyond the car routes. Urban sections alternate with wooded and open landscapes.

literature

Teachers with ties to their homeland have published several books about Lehrte:

  • Taught in the First World War and in the Weimar Republic, Volume 1 and Volume 2, 1989, from Dr. Hans Veit, published by the Lehrter Bucherstube publishing house
  • Taught in old views Volume 1 and Volume 2, 1980, by Wilhelm Behre, published by the European Library Zaltbommel
