Gifhorn is a city in the east Lower Saxony.

Gifhorn calls itself the south gate to Heide. In fact, there are extensive forests with heather north of Gifhorn and the city rightly bears this name, because there are no more heather areas south of Gifhorn. Gifhorn is known for its mill museum, which is still growing. Here you can eat bread baked from traditionally ground flour.

Gifhorn has two train stations. The station 1 Gifhorn city is south of the old town.

The Isenbüttel district is located about 3 km south of Gifhorn's old town 2 Gifhorn railway station. This is where the regional train lines from Braunschweig to Uelzen from south to north and from Wolfsburg to Hanover from east to west. The bus line 100 towards Wittingen takes you from the train station towards the city center

The B4 and B188 meet in Gifhorn. From the A2 Hanover - Berlin, exit 55 (Kreuz Braunschweig Nord), Gifhorn can be reached in just under 20 km via the B4.

By bicycle

The two long-distance cycle paths cross in Gifhorn Aller bike path and Weser-Harz-Heide-Radweg. On the Aller cycle path you cycle from Wolfsburg 22 km to Gifhorn and further west to Celle 47 km. You cycle on the Weser-Harz-Heide-Radweg from the south Braunschweig coming 37 km, and further north to Hankensbüttel 43 km.
