Porta Wesfalica is a city in the north North Rhine-Westphalia on the Weser. The "city center" is the place Hausberge, where the train station is. The Kaiser Wilhelm monument is well known.

background

The municipality of Porta Westfalica has only existed since 1973. It emerged from the merger of the 16 smaller municipalities Barkhausen, Hausberge, Lohfeld, Neesen, Lerbeck, Nammen, Wülpke, Kleinenbremen, Eisbergen, Veltheim, Möllbergen, Holtrup, Vennebeck, Costedt and Holzhausen. The name of the community should refer to the location at the Weser breakthrough between the Weser Mountains and the Wiehen Mountains, not, as one often hears, to the location at the Kaiser Wilhelm monument. The breakthrough valley is also known as Porta Westfalica or Westphalian Gate. There is no place called Porta Westfalica, only the municipality bears the name. In older sources, the name Porta Westfalica is used exclusively for the Weser breakthrough, which from the north looks like a gate (lat. porta) to Weser Uplands appears.

However, the ship does not stop here, it only sails past Porta Westfalika. Other passenger ships also pass Porta Westfalica.
