Nienburg / Weser is the district town in the district of the same name in Lower Saxony. It lies on the Weser and is the largest city in the Central Weser region. The region is an important growing area for asparagus and the city uses the vegetables for events and a museum.

The more than 1000-year history of the city is reflected in the historic old town with its spacious pedestrian areas and alleyways steeped in history. During a tour of the old town, you can discover the town hall (14th century) and the parish church of St. Martin (15th century), former Burgmannshöfe, farm bourgeois houses, lovingly restored half-timbered buildings and interesting examples from all eras.

The Mittelweser region around Nienburg offers ideal conditions for cycling and hiking enthusiasts. One of the most popular German long-distance cycle routes, the Weser Cycle Route, runs right through the city. Families with children will also feel comfortable cycling in the slightly hilly north German lowlands. In addition, the nearby Dino Park in Münchehagen, the Wolf Center Dörverden, the Uchter Moorbahn, the Loccum Monastery or the Bruchhausen-Vilsen museum railway attract visitors.

Nienburg has even more surprises in store, for example, major tourist roads lead into the city such as the German Fairy Tale Route, the German Half-timbered Route, the Lower Saxony Mühlenstrasse or the Route of the Weser Renaissance. The Lower Saxony Asparagus Route is one of them.

Nienburg events are known far beyond the region. Be it the asparagus festival, target shooting with the big jacket potato meal or the old town festival - there is always something for young and old.

The nearest airports are in Bremen and Hanover. The airfield Nienburg / Holzbalge (EDXI) is about 13km outside the city.

By train

The InterCity of line 56 stop in Nienburg Emden - Oldenburg (Oldb) - Bremen – Hanover – Braunschweig - Magdeburg - Leipzig . There are also regional express connections to Verden, Rotenburg (Wumme) (only with a change in Verden) and Minden and the S2 the S-Bahn Hanover drives to Hanover every hour, 1 Train station, Bahnhofstr. 11, 31582 Nienburg / Weser. Probably built in the 14th century as a multi-storey stone building. The town hall portal on the market square was built in 1585. It bears the coats of arms of the then incumbent mayor. The stepped gable with the typical elements of the Weser Renaissance was built around the same time. 1614 Construction of the first town hall tower with a bell.
