Diepholz is the district town of the Diepholz district in Lower Saxony.

getting there

By plane

The nearest airports are the Bremen Airport, the Münster / Osnabrück Airport and the Hanover Airport. All of them can be reached in about the same speed by car.

By train

Diepholz is connected to the rail network. Heading north is direction Bremen and south direction Osnabrück with the regional express, which runs every hour. Occasional IC trains also stop in Diepholz.

By bus

The central bus station is right next to the station. From here you can quickly reach all the surrounding cities.

In the street

Diepholz can be reached by car via Bundesstrasse 51, which runs from Bremen to Osnabrück leads, the federal highway 69, which from Vechta leads to Diepholz and over the federal highway 214, which from Lingen to Nienburg (Weser) leads.

The Church of St. Nicolai

The most important sight in Diepholz is certainly the moated castle. It is located very close to the city center in the Müntepark, a park that serves as a local recreation area. The castle is said to have been built in the 10th or 11th century, but this can no longer be clearly proven today. It is assumed that the castle was built as a moated castle. Little has been preserved of the original building, however, as it was rebuilt several times. The castle is the symbol of the city.

The most important church in Diepholz is the Evangelical Church of St. Nicolai. It is located in the city center at the beginning of the pedestrian zone.

Diepholz has a beautiful theater in which plays of various styles are performed. It's a touring theater, so it doesn't have a permanent ensemble. The theater seats 500 people.

The jousting games take place in Diepholz in October, always on a Sunday.

Those interested in technology can take a stroll in Schömastraße to see whether the Schöma locomotive factory has brand-new locomotives (including e.g. small locomotives for tunnel construction) in the small outdoor area at the bend in the street.

Diepholz has a small but cozy and attractive pedestrian zone. Shop after shop is lined up here and you can buy just about anything you would expect from a medium-sized center. Usually it is not so crowded that you can go shopping comfortably without having to jostle.
