The Federal motorway 72 (BAB 72 or A 72) connects the motorway 
from the triangle Bavarian Vogtland at Hof with the motorway 
near Chemnitz and continues towards Leipzig. It currently ends with Borna.

This motorway was originally intended to connect the Munich - Berlin motorway from the Bavarian Vogtland triangle near Hof with the motorway near Chemnitz in the 1940s. After reunification, it was decided to extend it towards Leipzig, which is happening gradually.

The little village 1 Mödlareuth
is a specialty: a part of it is in Bavaria today and belongs to the place Pots, the other in Thuringia. The former state border of the GDR ran through the middle of the village, making Mödlareuth a “miniature Berlin”, so to speak, with everything that goes with it: In the center of the small town there was a 700 meter long wall and multiple staggered border fortifications. Today there is a very interesting border museum here; You can see a part of the original wall, a watchtower, dog running system and military vehicles, including a Soviet tank. There is a small exhibition on the division of Germany as well as film screenings in the museum building.
