The small town Borna, Administrative seat of the district of Leipzig, is located south of Leipzig in the Leipzig lowland bay, surrounded by many lakes - former open-cast lignite mines. There is an active lignite mine to the west of the city.

If you drive through the city of Leipzig, the route is shorter, but the journey takes longer. With the S-Bahn you have to change at Leipzig Central Station and it takes around 70 minutes from the airport train station to Borna.

By train

The Borna train station can be reached from Leipzig with the S6 S-Bahn every half hour. The ride from Leipzig Central Station takes 40 minutes, from Markkleeberg 25 minutes. In the opposite direction, the S-Bahn comes out once an hour Geithain (15 minutes) and Frohburg (7 minutes).

Out Chemnitz Coming you have to change in Geithain and take a total of 50 minutes. Out Altenburg with a change in Neukieritzsch you are on the way for half an hour.

By bus

Numerous bus routes connect Borna with the surrounding area. So-called plus bus lines, which run every hour on weekdays, depart from Zwenkau (101), Lucka (258) and Kitzscher (276). From Altenburg bus line 251 runs every hour during rush hour, otherwise every two hours to Borna.

From Leipzig via the B 95, from Bad Lausick or. Pegau and Zwenkau via the B 176, from Chemnitz via the A 72, from Altenburg via the B 93.

Borna is located directly on the 100 km long New Lakeland Cycle Routewhich connects the city with Regis-Breitingen (15 km), Markkleeberg (30 km), Pegau (38 km) and the Leipzig district of Knautnaundorf (43 km). The Pleißeradweg Altenburg – Leipzig runs 6 km west of Borna.

On foot

Borna is on Saxon Luther Trail as well as on the pilgrimage route along the medieval Via Imperii (Berlin – Wittenberg – Leipzig – Altenburg – Zwickau), the part of Central German Way of St. James is. From Leipzig to Borna it is 35 km (rather uphill), from Altenburg 24 km (more downhill).
