The small town Pegau is south of Leipzig in the Leipzig lowland bay On the White Elster, to the west and east of the city, there are lignite opencast mines.

Pegau arose around the monastery founded by Count Wiprecht in 1096, its cenotaph bears one of the most important Romanesque sculptures in the Saxon art space.

getting there

Pegau can be reached via the A 38 (exit Leipzig-Südwest) and B 186 or from Leipzig via the B 2, which has been expanded to the four-lane expressway at Großdeuben. You can also drive on the B 2 from the direction Gera and Time at. The B 176 from direction Borna ends in Pegau, because behind Pegau it is interrupted by the Profen open-cast lignite mine. The train driver uses the Leipzig – Zeitz – Gera route.
