Zwenkau is a small town in the south of Leipzig, through the city Zwenkau lake separated, one of the largest lakes in central Germany.

The Zwenkau lake, which emerged from an open-cast lignite mine, is the third largest body of water in the Central German Lake District with 970 hectares after Geiseltalsee (1850 hectares) and Goitzsche (1330 hectares).

By plane
The Leipzig Halle Airport is about 38 km north-west (B 186 and A 9).
By train
The trains from Leipzig to Gera stop every hour at the Zwenkau-Großdalzig stop (6 km from the center of Zwenkau) that goes from Leipzig to Borna in Großdeuben, also about 6 km away.
By bus
The Leipzig main station can be reached from Zwenkau with the express bus 100. Other bus lines connect the city with the south of Leipzig, Markkleeberg and Altenburg.
In the street
The federal highways 2 and 186 run through southern Zwenkau. The B 95 is approx. 5 km away and can be reached via the B 2. The A 38 can also be reached via the B 2 at the Leipzig Süd junction 10 km away.

Zwenkau is located in the tariff area of the Central German Transport Association (mdv). All network tickets that are valid for the tariff zone are valid on the S-Bahn, tram and bus. The Saxony, (Saxony-Anhalt, Thuringia) ticket is also valid on all local public transport.
