Markranstädt is a small town southwest of Leipzig.
background
The Kulkwitzer See lake, which emerged from an open-cast lignite mine, makes the city on the outskirts of Leipzig an attractive residential area. The district of Altranstädt and the one 8 km away Lützen were at the center of European history.

Markranstädt is located in the tariff area of the Central German Transport Association (mdv). All network tickets that are valid for the tariff zone are valid on the S-Bahn, tram and bus. The Saxony, (Saxony-Anhalt, Thuringia) ticket is also valid on all local public transport.

- Altranstädter castle with church, rectory and chapel of the Counts of Hohenthal-Dölkau; the castle was the political center of Northern Europe from 1706 to 1707 when the Swedish king took his headquarters there.
