The town Aue in the Western Ore Mountains lies in the deeply cut valley of the Zwickauer Mulde. It has a long history as a mining town in the mineral-rich Ore Mountains.

Aue - city of bridges

background

Aue is best known today for the FC Erzgebirge Aue football club, but its history goes back to the end of the Middle Ages. The mining of iron, silver and tin ores and the industries based on them led the city to flourish. Most recently, during the GDR era, Aue was a center of the SDAG Wismut until 1991, which mined uranium ore in the area.
