Eibenstock

Eibenstock lies on a plateau in the Western Ore Mountains, above the drinking water reservoir of the same name. Eibenstock was declared a mining town in 1534.

getting there

By train

A railway connection no longer exists due to the construction of the Eibenstock dam (1974-86). From Aue you can take bus 371, 372 (via Schneeberg) or 373 (via Burkhardtsgrün) to Eibenstock.

In the street

The city is in the north by the B 283 AueKlingenthal bypassed. From Zwickau you drive over Schneeberg, from Plauen via Falkenstein and Auerbach.

Eibenstock dam

The City Church, Built from 1865 to 1868, has a tulip-shaped baroque baptismal font with a life-size crucifix from 1556, as well as furnishings from the previous building.

  • Eibenstock dam: A water trail at the dam provides information about water. After the barrier wall was opened in 2017, a circular hike around the dam is possible. The way is signposted. It offers numerous views of the dam and the surrounding landscape. Since the Eibenstock dam is a drinking water dam, swimming or water sports are not possible.

  • Carlsfeld (11 km south, via Wildenthal) - state-approved resort with the highest drinking water reservoir in Germany
  • Johanngeorgenstadt (14 km southeast, via Wildenthal) - mining town with historic post mile columns.
  • Morgenröthe diamond wreath (16 km southwest) - hometown of the first German space explorer Siegmund Jähn; Space museum in the former train station.
