The small town Rochlitz lies between Chemnitz and Leipzig in the valley of the Zwickauer Mulde. The Rochlitz Castle is one of the most famous in Saxony.

background

Rochlitz, originally a castle in the Zeitz region, fell under Bishop Eberhard (1045-78) to Naumburg, later to the county of Groitzsch and around the middle of the 12th century. to Dedo the fat one from Meissen-Landsberg. In 1289 a comparison was made between Albrecht the Naughty and his sons, but on June 1, 1403, a succession contract was concluded between Landgraves Balthasar and Wilhelm von Thuringia. Later Johann Georg gave it to his lover, Fraulein von Neitschütz, who he raised to Countess von Rochlitz. In the Thirty Years' War that followed soon after, Rochlitz was hit hard. In 1802, 1804 and 1834 a large part of the city burned down.

Rail trabi in Rochlitz

Rochlitz is via the federal highway 107 from Grimma (A 14) Chemnitz, via the federal highway 175 from Glauchau (A 4) Chub (A 14) and via federal highway 7 from Altenburg reachable with end point in Rochlitz. If you are coming from Chemnitz, it is better to use the A 72 that has been completed to the Rochlitz junction instead of the B 107 and then the B 175.

The Muldentalbahn, on which Rochlitz is located, was gradually shut down from 1997 due to the poor condition of the line. The 2002 floods finally gave her the rest. The German regional railway GmbH, which has set itself the goal of preserving railway lines in the area, has received the operating license for the line and is in the process of repairing it. On some weekends you can take the Trabi (Events) drive to Göhren. The branch lines from Waldheim and Narsdorf are also no longer in operation.
