background

The Pleißenland has a long history. After King Heinrich I took the land from the Sorbs, it formed an imperial domain, the administration of which was administered by its own governors with the title of Judges of the PleißnerlandJudices terrae plisnensis) was transferred. Later the country was under counts. After the dissolution of the German Gau constitution, the Gaugrafen were replaced by a supreme imperial district court composed of the noblest nobility of the Pleissnerland, headed by a judge elected by the emperor. Emperor Friedrich II., Who betrothed his daughter Margarete to the eldest son of the Meissen Margrave Heinrich the Illustrious, Albrecht, pledged the Pleißenland for the dowry to the Margrave Heinrich, who took possession of it in 1252. In 1323 the Emperor Ludwig the Bavarian renounced the right of redemption, and the Pleißenland remained from then on to the Margraves of Meißen, who later partly owned it Osterland, partly incorporated into the Margraviate of Meißen.

getting there

In the street

The federal motorway runs in an east-west direction A4 through the area. At the exit Meerane one arrives over the four-lane B93 quickly to Zwickau.

By train

Getting here by train is a bit more complicated, as West Saxony is not connected to the long-distance network. The nearest long-distance stops are Halle, Leipzig, Dresden or Erfurt / Weimar. From there there are S-Bahn connections (from Halle / Leipzig, also Leipzig Airport) to Zwickau with stops in Crimmitschau and Werdau or regional express trains (from Erfurt / Weimar via Jena / Gera) to Meerane and Glauchau or from Dresden to Glauchau and Zwickau; the latter continue to Hof with a connection to Nuremberg.

mobility

Large parts of the West Saxony region belong to the tariff area of the Central Saxony Transport Association (VMS). This enables travelers with network tickets to use all public transport in the respective tariff zone. The Saxony (Saxony-Anhalt, Thuringia) ticket is also valid on all VMS means of transport.
