By plane
The closest airport with scheduled flights is the Leipzig Halle Airport
(IATA: LEJ). From there, the region can be reached via the A 9 or by train in one to two hours. There is a free train connection from the airport to Altenburg or Gössnitz (S 5 or S5X X direction Zwickau); there are transfer options in the direction of Schmölln, Ronneburg, Gera. You can also get to Gera with a change at Leipzig Hbf.
The airport Altenburg-Nobitz has no more passenger traffic.

East Thuringia is comparatively well connected by car. The 
Direction Dresden cuts through the area in east / west direction, the north-south running
