background
The autobahn was initially planned as part of the federal autobahn 48. For environmental reasons, however, the connection became the current one Federal motorway 1 through the Meulenwald, to which a connection at Shut up was intended, not built. The BAB 64 is next to the Federal motorway 95 the only German federal motorway without direct connection to the rest of the German motorway network.
