The Federal motorway 7 (BAB 7 or A 7) is the longest German federal motorway at 961.6 kilometers and also the longest continuous national motorway in Europe. It runs from north to south from the Danish border in Ellund through the federal states of Schleswig-Holstein, Hamburg, Lower Saxony and Hesse, then switches back and forth several times between Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg and ends at the Austrian border at the Füssen border crossing. It goes in Austria continue on federal highway 179 over the Fernpass.

Between the parking lots Jalm (north) and Jalmer Moor (south) is the highway to one 1 Autobahn makeshift airfield (also Emergency landing site called) expanded. For this purpose, the central reservation is concreted and the central guardrail is inserted into ground sockets for easy dismantling, the parking spaces on both sides are intended to serve as parking spaces for aircraft in an emergency. This makeshift airfield, originally reserved for military purposes, is still officially managed as such.

Between the Seesen and Echte exits, the motorway passes the battlefield at a narrow point between two mountain ridges Roman battle on the Harzhorn. At the Northeim Nord exit, the A7 crosses the A7 on a long bridge Northeimer Seenplattewhose gravel ponds, some of which are still managed, and some of which are designated as recreational lakes or nature reserves, extend extensively to the right and left of the motorway. The name of the original motorway exit was after the neighboring town Friedland and despite strong protests in the region, the A38 was built in Drammetal (after the brook Dramme) named. The Friedland exit was historically significant because of the border transit camp located there, which was the first port of call for many war returnees in the post-war period. About 4 km after the Hedemünden exit, the A7 crosses the Werra onto the Werrata bridges. In addition to the Werra, the current railway line of the Hanover Southern Railway and the 
crossed. The bridge, built in 1937, was blown up in 1945 and reopened in 1952. The Werra valley bridge of the high-speed line Hanover-Würzburg of the railway runs just 33 m away to the west of the motorway bridge, which is over 10 km long at the southern bridgehead Mündener tunnel disappears.
Accident blackspot Due to the steep downward gradient directly in front of the Werra Valley Bridge, the route is not without danger, all warnings and speed restrictions are more than sensible. On the north-leading route there is an emergency stop strip for trucks, which consists of a deep gravel bed, directly in front of the bridge. Coming from the Hessian mountains, the brakes of many trucks are often overheated at this point and there is a risk that the steep downhill section down to the bridge can lead to brake failure. The gravel bed of the emergency stop strip is then the last safeguard that the trucks do not skid and possibly fall over the bridge into the depths.
