history

The town of Bad Brückenau has its beginnings as "Sinnau" in a ford settlement in the Au des Flüsschens Sinn for the street from, which was certainly occupied in the 9th century Fulda to Hammelburg. After the construction of the first bridge (first stone bridge from 1597), the part of the settlement on the Sinn was given the name "Bridge Au".

In 1260 the settlement on the Sinn was fortified under the prince abbot of the Fulda monastery because of its strategic importance. In 1294 the Veste Brückenau first mentioned. Brückenau has had city rights since 1310 and a reinforced city wall was built from 1337.

The ownership structure of the craft town of Brückenau is then quite changeable. Originally for Fulda Monastery Belonging, it came temporarily to Würzburg in 1576, was temporarily Hessian in the Thirty Years War (1618 - 1648) and in the post-Napoleonic period from 1802 Orange-Nassau, French, belonged to the Grand Duchy of Frankfurt and briefly became Austrian, before Bad Brückenau finally became the kingdom from 1816 Bavaria was slammed.

The years of disaster for Brückenau were the plague years of 1349, 1575, 1634 and the year 1876 with a devastating city fire.

Former County seat: Brückenau had been the official seat since the 15th century; in 1939, the Brückenau district became the Brückenau district. Until its dissolution in 1970, Brückenau was also a district town. Since then the city has belonged to the district Bad Kissingen, has had bathing approval since the 1970s due to its two medicinal springs, Georgi and Siebener.

The Bad Brückenau state bath

The first mineral spring / steel spring was discovered in 1747, today there are five healing springs. The first healing springs were taken in 1747 by the Fulda abbot Amandus von Buseck and today's state bath was founded near the town of Bad Brückenau. Under the Fulda abbots, the baths were further expanded in the same century, especially under Heinrich von Bibra. When he died in 1788, the health resort was already a fashion bath and one of the most famous baths in Germany, its health resort and the properties in the Staatsbad der Staatl The spa administration is the responsibility of the Free State of Bavaria.

From 1816 Bad Brückenau became Bavarian. The ensemble of buildings and parks of the state baths passed to the royal house of the Wittelsbach family and the state baths gained international fame thanks to the frequent spa stays of the Bavarian King Ludwig I (1786 - 1868), he visited 26 times. Ludwig I, who was married to Therese von Bayern, was able to perform undisturbed in the province in the Rhön with his lover Lola Montez, which was not possible in the state capital of Munich, and later (1848) cost him the crown. Under Ludwig I, the state bath ensemble was further expanded next to the tranquil Rhön town into a glamorous world bath with guests from the entire European nobility.

The water from the medicinal springs of the state bath is mainly used to treat kidney diseases. It is used both as a drinking treatment and as a spa treatment.

Pavilion in the walkway

The garden unites the architectural styles of three centuries and was created from 1747 for the prince abbots of Fulda. The garden planner was the Italian court architect Andrea Gallasini. He designed a strictly symmetrical baroque park. The main axis is the walkway as a promenade and oriented across the Sinntal: the two end points rise above the valley floor. Today's new tree plantings are also based on the earlier structure.

The gardens underwent its greatest expansion under King Ludwig I .. He added numerous representative buildings (Kursaal, hotels) to the gardens.

In the period from around 1900 until the First World War, a few Art Nouveau villas were built, the arrangement of which was based more on the geometry of the original layout of the 18th century.

The park is open all year round and free of charge. Seating, handicapped accessible, dogs (leash) are allowed. 14-day guided tours through the park and the kitchen herb and medicinal herb gardens, € 2.70 / person (guest card: free). Group tours on request;
