Gemünden am Main is a historic city in Main triangle in Lower Franconia in the northern Bavaria.

The river flows into the city sense in the Franconian Saale and then in the Main. A little east of the main town in the district of Wernfeld also flows from Schweinfurt Wern in the Main. In Gemünden the Main changes its direction: from northwest to west to ins Main square at Lohr am Main to pass over.
Gemünden began as a high medieval fishing settlement. The abundance of fish in the rivers favored the settlement of fishermen. They are first mentioned in the early 13th century.

Tourist Attractions
- 1 Scherenburg castle ruins. The Scherenburg castle ruin is located on a slope above the town center of Gemünden am Main, from where you have a beautiful view of the Main valley.
- 2 Schoenau Monastery. The Monastery of the Minorites is located in the Schönau district of the municipality of Gemünden am Main..
- 3 City parish church of St. Peter and Paul. It was built in 1488 on the walls of the even older St. Peter's Church in Gothic style. The reconstruction after the Second World War was kept very simple.
